With the growing demand for electric power, the security and reliability requirements are getting higher and higher. The emergence of Flexible AC Transmission Systems technologies, become a new method of improving the controllability and reliability of power system, which is one of the frontal subjects of power system in recent years. Static Var Compensator (SVC) and Thyristor Controlled Series Compensator (TCSC) are the important elements of FACTS and useful tools to improve the power system stability. Therefore, the research on using SVC and TCSC to the power system has significant theoretical meaning and practical value.This paper with the application of MATLAB software, set up SVC and TCSC models, and study the role of compensation and their harmonic of the two kinds of compensation device in a simple three-phase power system, SVC as a parallel compensation, with a rapid response speed and stronger adjusting ability and can issue or absorb reactive power according to the change of reactive power in the system operation, which improves the voltage stability and controlling the anti-jamming of the system. TCSC as the series compensation, can successively changes the equivalent impedance, then change the level of the series compensation, which can effectively control the damping oscillation and improve the transient stability of the system.Between the FACTS devices will have multiple interactions, maybe severely undermine the stability of power system. The Joint compensation of SVC and TCSC will also produce a certain interaction, in this paper, Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) has been used to quantitatively analysis the interaction of these two devices, and proved by simulation. The electric distance between the two devices and the size of the load have a certain impact on the interactions. The shorter of the electric distance between devices, that is, the more intense of electrical coupling, and the more serious interaction between the two devices; increasing the load also will lead to the same serious interaction, with the more load, the more strong interaction between the two kinds of compensation device.Based on the lack of the dynamic reactive power support in Jiangxi, which study the application of SVC can effectively increase the load capacity and improve the voltage stability. Then SVC has been installed, study how the choice of TCSC's installed location effect the two joint compensation and its interaction. and prove the effectiveness and feasibility of the system's stability controlling again with the Joint compensation of SVC and TCSC.
