Intermittent, impact load abound in the power system led to power grid voltage instabil-ity and the decrease of power factor. In addition, with the increasing number of power elec-tronic equipment, power grid harmonic problems become increasingly serious, seriously threat power system power supply quality. Reactive power compensation problem has been one of the important research topics of the grid, the reactive power compensation device can effectively solve the above phenomenon of bad, improve power quality. Using Thyristor Controlled Reactor(TCR) reactive power compensation device for reactive power compensa-tion is an important means of improving power quality. In order to solve the problem of the existing TCR parameter design is unreasonable and compensation accuracy is not high, must to deeply study the key technology of TCR.First of all, the paper based on the analysis of reactive power compensation theory and device at home and abroad, studied the topological structure and working characteristics of TCR, then analyzed the parameters, variables and the voltage-current characteristics of TCR which can influence the performance of VCR. Based on the mathematical deduction, demon-strated the use of TCR for reactive power compensation was the important measures to im-prove power quality and laid the research foundation for the following content.Second, the TCR reactive power compensation device was designed. Mainly includes the TCR parameter calculation, thyristor sill value composition analysis and parameter determi-nation. In addition, in order to solve the harmonic problem itself, the TCR passive filter of the compensation system were studied from the aspects of structure, working principle and pa-rameter calculation. The key parameter of TCR, the specific design process of thyristor and the parameter design of the single tuned filter were determined through the example design.Again, based on in-depth study of the principle of compensation for the unbalanced three-phase system. In view of the commonly used TCR reactive current detection method is not accurate, in turn, can lead to the problem of insufficient compensation accuracy, reactive power compensation current detection method was put forward. Using MATLAB/Simulink software to build the simulation model of three phase PCR reactive compensation system, by comparing with before and after the reactive power compensation current detection method of the simulation results, the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method was verified.Finally, a TCR controller which use a floating-point type TMS320F28335 as hardware core was designed based on modified reactive power compensation current detection method. AC voltage and current sampling of controller, the design circuits of zero point detection, protection and trigger and the flow charts of software system main program and each module were given. The effectiveness and practicability of the controller and TCR reactive power compensation system was verified through 10 KV system platform experiments.
