Electric apparatus appeared and developed accompanying with electric energy production. From later half of the 19th century, electric energy gradually replaced steam which have occupied dominate position from industrial revolution as industrial development power, and motor gradually become one of prime mover in industrial production. Then, electric apparatus needed in electric energy production, transmission, distribution and application emerged.Low voltage electrical apparatus passes through more than 50 years development, has formed a set of perfect system relatively. The variety, output, technical performance and quality of product can basically meet the requirements of national economic development. The low voltage electrical apparatus design by china experienced three generations development.This article introduced the development process of circuit breaker applied in low voltage network, analyzed the present state and problem faced, its gap with international standard, and industry trend. According to the fact that miniaturization, low energy consumption, environmental friendly top products from multinational corporation enter the Chinese electric power market, material price rising, and Chinese government put forward the plan of "energy saving and consumption reduction, high efficient environment protection" , research aim of new type low voltage distribution circuit breaker, concrete methods, technical difficulties and adopted measures, expected result are introduced in detail, including reducing overall dimension of circuit breaker obviously, reducing energy consumption effectively, improving main technical specifications.The first chapter of this paper introduced the development process of electric apparatus, the application of low voltage electrical apparatus and its general situation at home and abroad, pointed out the current situation in china by comparing.The second introduced general situation of energy loss in power system based on the low energy consumption and gave three new type circuit breaker primary system research schemes according to energy consumption requirements in the national standard GB14048.2-2008.The third gave optimization data which has guiding significance of reference by studying on the arc quenching principle and transmission structure of circuit breaker, and calculating the design of arc-extinguishing devices, also made comparative experiment among the three arc-extinguishing device schemes, improved and optimized the traditional arc striking device and slide transmission based on the miniaturization.The fourth gave reliability improvement scheme aiming at the common fault point in low voltage system.The fifth introduced two international instructions about electrical and electronic material choosing and products wasting, emphatically elaborated the recognition scope of harmful substance and detection points, and gave environmental protection points of the new type circuit breaker.
