The requirements for the service capability and the practical work ability of the seafare are higher and higher as the improvement of the automation and complexity of the modern marine systems and the use of computer technology. If we use the actual laboratory or engine room, the cost is high. On the other hand, marine simulator has the advantages of economical efficiency and convenience. However, nowadays, the simulators are almost of two dimensions, and different greatly from the actual engine room. It is a trend using the virtual reality system in the training of the crew in recent years. It will help the crew have a complete and intensive knowing of the marine systems before they are in touch with the actual equipments. And it is not only benefit for the crew, but also has the advantage of resource saving and economical effiency. But if we only use the virtual environment and the virtual navigation to train the crew, it is not nearly enough. So if we want the crew to be excellent, we must let them know the deep level of the marine engineering. So it is clear that the crew will benefit from the mathematical model integrates with the virtual environment.This paper seeks the developmental trend the combination of the mathematical model with the virtual environment taking the high temperature cooling water system as an example. Firstly, this paper analyses the current status of the marine simulator and introduces the source of this paper—the project of Marine Simulator for Taizhou MSA. Secondly, it introduces the virtual reality techonology and the improvement and types of it. Thirdly, it describes the process of the establishment of the high temperature cooling water system virtual reality environment. At the beginning, we must collect as much data as possible from the engine room. Then, we draw the earlier three-demension model of the equipments in the high temperature cooling water system. In order to make the 3D model be similar to the actual ship, we make use of the lightscape to produce the 3D model which can be used in the virtual environment and similar with to the actual system. At last, we import the 3D model to the Eon to make the earlier roaming come ture. Fouthly, this paper establishes the thermal model of every part of the high temperature cooling water system based on the knowledge of the relevant thermodynamics and the understanding of the whole system. Then we give the temperature trend chart using the thermal models through the simulation software. Finally, we create a virtual high temperature cooling water system including the display of the temperature trend chart, the tempreture trend in the thermometer, and the function of the sound using the application of the nodes and the setup of the logic.The results of research will do favor to the training of the crew using the virtual reality techonology and the thermal model. The intergration of mathematical model or physical model with the virtual environment will be used in the training of the crew in future.
