Due to its simple construction, reliability, high efficiency and low cost, switched reluctance motor (SRM) has shown huge competitive power in many field. But mechanical position sensors add to the cost, complexity and potential unreliability at high speed and this has motivated the investigation of sensorless position estimation of switched reluctance motor drive.Firstly, the running mechanism and the basic theory of SRM are summarized in this paper. The framework of SRD and control methods of this system are analyzed particular. Based on Matlab/Simulink, the linearity model of SRM is established and switched reluctance motor drive is dynamical simulated.Secondly, based on analyzing simplified flux method of sensorless switched reluctance motor, angle control online with efficiency optimization is proposed. First comparing the current conduct flux linkage with referred flux linkage determine the turn-off position, thus estimate speed and rotor position. The algorithm adjust turn-on angle online to achieve efficiency optimization goal. The simulation results show that the sensorless SRM control system though adopting the algorithm exactly estimates speed and rotor position. Also the efficiency of system is improved obviously.Finally, based on TMS320F2812 DSP, the sensorless drive system of a 12/8 switched reluctance motor is designed including the hardware circuit and the software algorithm. The experiments of open loop and speed closed loop for SRD are completed. The primary experiments of sensorless SRM efficiency optimization have been carried out on this practical system.
