The definition and modeling of the ship compartment is very complex and recursive. The stability and insubmersibility are based on proper design of ship compartment, and the rapidity of the definition and modeling of the compartment determine the economic efficiency of the ship design .It is very significant to find a solution of reducing the period of ship compartment definition and modeling .Currently ,the expression of ship compartment is majorly based on two-dimensional(2-D) and three-dimensional(3-D).The three-dimensional method is usually based on second development of 3-D software(CATIA,CADS5,Solid Works etc.). With excellent visual effect and function, it is hightly limited by professional software and the hardware. Meanwhile, the compartment subdivision process is tremendously complex, due to the restriction of mathematic.Avoiding the limitation of the professional software, this article is dedicated to search a rapid and simple compartment subdivision method. Based on the analysis of the advantage and disadvantage of 3-D and 2-D method,this article choose to express the two-dimensional frame in three-dimensional environment. The common used CAD software AutoCAD is choosed to be the platform of second development for the purpose of avoiding the limitation of professional software. The work completed are as follow:(1) Based on the analysis of kinds of spline, this article uses B-Spline to express the ship lines.(2) Based on the analysis of the kinds of ship compartment, this article decides to study the method form the crosssection of the ship.Based on the reality that the key points of the crosssection of the ship are the components of the projection of the bulkhead, this article uses subdivision line to divide the ship space. It supports both top-down and bottom-up model of the compartment subdivision.(3) Based on the bulkhead subdivision, this article provids the basic calculation of the ship performance.Finnaly the method used in this article is proved to be effective by the demonstration of 26000DWT Oil Products Tank and a warship.
