Research Of The Pattern Of BRT Operation And Management

With the development of society and economy, the process of urbanization had been speed up. There is a serious imbalance between the huge traffic demand and the limited traffic resource in city. The inefficiency of transport system have been constrained the rapid development of city. At the same time, the traffic pollution brings tremendous damage to the environment, and urban traffic is facing an unprecedented pressure and contradictions. The voice that appeals to improve the urban transportation and environment from community have become more and more strongly.Bus Rapid Transit System (BRT) which is originated in the middle of 1990s is a rapid Public transit system which is between urban railway system and traditional bus system. It has lots of successful abroad case. It carries more than bus, and costs lower than metro. Moreover, it is difficult for Metro Transit Network to be more scaled than now in short term because of its substantial investment and long construction period. Therefore, facing rapid urban development with huge traffic demand before Metro Transit Network format, most cities in our country consider developing BRT of big carriage as the first measure of solving traffic jams problem.In this paper, the definition, composition and features of BRT systems were introduced, and its domestic in our country were analyzed. Through the general introduction of the application of BRT system in our country, the existing pattern of operation and management and problems were analyzed and summed up. At the same time, through the comparison of varies operating patterns and the reference of successful experiences of aboard BRT systems, the trend of domestic BRT system was come out. On the base of the combination of problems, experiences and the trend, this paper discussed the operation and management pattern of BRT system, which is applicable in our country. The discussion was in fore areas: network planning and infrastructure, selection of commercial vehicles, intelligent scheduling system and pricing strategies. Through the analyses of planning and operation pattern of Guangzhou BRT system, this paper proposed certain thoughts and suggestions to Guangzhou BRT system.
