Matrix converter has many good performances. It permits frequency conversion ina single-stage processing without large reactive energy storage components, the inputfundamental displacement factor nearly at unity or freely varied regardless of the loadpower factor, and allows bi-directional power flow. Matrix converter is a flexible anduniversal power converter by itself. Several topologies can be reduced by thisconverter. A novel AC-DC power converter reduced by AC/AC matrix converter isinvestigated in the paper, besides general feature, it has other characters different withexisting rectifiers. Combined with computer simulation and prototype experiment, akind of matrix AC-DC power converter with four-quadrant operation capacity wasdeeplyinvestigated in this dissertation.Three control strategies of AC-DC matrix converter are investigated. Current spacevector modulation is adopted. Safety commutation in matrix AC-DC converter isresearched. One-step commutation method adopted in the converter design matchesthe operation characteristics of AC-DC matrix converter. The logic and controlcircuit of one-step commutation is realized. In order to further studies on the converterperformances and experimental research, the simulation model of the AC-DC matrixconverter is established. Based on the model, the control and operation performancesof the converter are simulated entirely. The correctness of theoretical analysis isproved bysimulation results.Based on TI TMS320F2812 and XC9572XL, the hardware experimental platformwith modularized design method of the converter system is established. Based on theplatform, experimental research adopted current space vector modulation and one-stepcommutation method is carried out. Experimental results accord with the simulationresults well. The correctness of theoretical analysis and the validity of design schemeare proved by experimental results, which found the basis for the matrix converter'sfurther practical studies.
