The requirements for the stablity of power supply become higher and higher in the modern society. In this years, following the development of the interconnection deeply into the state power grid, once the stablity is broken up, the power supply will be interrupted in many area that disturb the people's lives. According to statistics, there are numbers of power-cut accidence because of the disturbance of grid system around world include our nation, it cause serious damage. So it's very important for the specialists and scholars to solve the problem of transient stability.A suitable excitation control method can play an important role to ensure the transient stablity of the power system under disturbance. In this paper, the fuzzy adaptive control method is proposed to guarantee the transient stability. The research work is expressed as followsThe fuzzy adaptive control for multi-machine power system based on ant colony algorithm is schemed. Design the state observers by estimating the state variables which are unmeasured completely. Optimization the fuzzy rules by the ant colony algorithm based on the practical situation of interconnected generators system, and the quantity of fuzzy rules is decreased in a way by solving the problem of multi-variable system which has large numbers of rules. This method can guarantee the stablity of the system, and then lower the design difficulty of the controller.A control method of variable universe fuzzy adaptive control for multi- machine power system is proposed based on the research task mentioned above. In the case of the number of fuzzy rules is unchanged, by adjusting the contraction-expansion factors on-line, the universe is changed automatically, improving the control accuracy and the approximate error is decreased step by step. It makes the fuzzy rules become well-designed. The simulation shows that the controller can effectively improve the stability of power system under big disturbance.
