Voltage sags, temporary outage, etc. will all be more critical in microgrid with few generators. On the contrary, with the development of modern society, high quality power supply becomes more desirable in everyday life. In a microgrid, energy storage is essential. Super capacitor energy storage (SCES) has the advantage of quick response, high power output, high efficiency and the ability to output both active and reactive power. SCES can not only compensate the voltage sag, but also cope with impact load and temporary outage. SCES applied to microgrid is proposed in this paper. The main structure of SCES is introduced; effective control model is built and simulation experiment are carried out in different applications. Simulations results demonstrate that SCES can improve the power quality of microgrid effectively.
