The intercity travel range is expanding and the total for intercity trip is increasing rapidly under the influence of development of economy and improvement of intercity, passenger transport system, and personalized travel demand has become increasingly evident. The phenomenon makes the research on route planning method of intercity travel in multimodal networks necessary.Route planning of intercity travel in multimodal networks which is based on the existing modes of transportation and conveyance is a route optimization problem, in case of different preference (fast, economic, and less transfer and comfort). Compared with the traditional route planning, route planning of intercity travel in Multimodal networks rely on service network but physical network. The weight of arc would be determined by travel preference. The result of route planning is not only for the shortest, but also to consider the habit of option in urban transit. Based on these characteristics, the following aspects are studied in the paper:(1) Intercity and multimodal travel networks are constructed which can show all the travel information between cities. The existing network construction methods are improved. In the multimodal travel networks, node represents city and arc represents train service or flight.(2) Intercity travel route optimization models are built in consideration of different preferences. Based on selecting appropriate indicators, rapidity, economy, number of transfer and comfort are quantized. Finally, generalized cost model is built including above-mentioned costs.(3) Region-divided algorithm is proposed. The fuzzy cluster analysis and gravity method are used to divide the region and find the core city. Interregional route would be planed in the corresponding single-layer network according to the travel preferences and then intraregional route would be planed separately. Finally the results are combined. Region-divided algorithm makes the scale of network smaller to increase of efficiency of algorithm, while ensuring the result rational and human-oriented.(4) According to the data in reality, a program is made to test the algorithm and show the route by ArcGIS. The proposed algorithm is feasible and effective by comparative analysis.
