A Study On The Construction Techniques Of Hubei Traditional Dwellings

This paper starts with the spatial form of traditional dwellings in Hubei, tells the structure of its residential building structure, brick masonry, decoration and other aspects of building techniques. By comparing the folk building with the official building, analyzes the local feature construction work, and tease out the traditional folk craft of traditional dwellings in Hubei.Hubei province is located in the boundary of the south and the north of china. The Long River and the Han River cross through the place and made it known as a center that connect provinces around. In such a place with convenient traffic and full of passengers, the traditional dwellings here have absorbed many influence and created their own feature. This paper is organized around the main theme of "Construction Techniques", analyzes the carpentry work, stone and tile work, and joinery work of Hubei traditional dwellings. The first part starts with the structure type of traditional houses and their technical aspect, analyzes the wooden frames and components. The following part starts with the methods of constructing roofs, analyzes the technique of components in wooden part and the stone and tile part, as well as summarizes the features of constructing roofs and their decorations. The third part is about civil masonry, it describes the methods of lining wall, foundation treatment, and paving ways, as well as analyzes the techniques to fit the region. The last part is about joinery work, stone work, and painting work, it analyzes the decoration techniques of traditional houses based on a large number of examples.Purposes of this article are as followed:First, sum up the characteristics of types and construction techniques of traditional dwellings by analyzing the spatial form. Second, analyzes the local feature of construction techniques by studying the structural elements. Third, sum up the construction mechanism by research in order to create a system of technical information of traditional dwellings in Hubei.
