The halls in Suzhou residents of Ming and Qing Dynasties is the most important building type,it is an important way to understand the local history,culture and folkways,as well as an important carrier for researching the traditional construction technology of Xiangshan Gang.There are so many resident halls of Ming and Qing Dynasties in Suzhou with high artistic value which are carpentry frame form-diversified,structure-flexible,decoration-elegant and preserve-well.So far,academia's research of the residents in Suzhou of Ming and Qing Dynasties have been focus on residential general situation,summarizing the construction technology totally,but the research on the construction technology of the carpentry work of the hall in residences of Ming and Qing Dynasties in Suzhou is rare,especially the research by using BIM technology is even more rare which base on the traditional research methods.This research attempts to research the construction technology of the carpentry work of the hall in residences of Ming and Qing Dynasties in Suzhou,selects 64 halls with typical geographical features in Suzhou units of cultural relics protection.Based on consulting a large number of historical data,field survey and BIM technology,conduct the in-depth study of plan model,form and constitution of hall,relationship of modulus and key points of construction,at the same time,make use of Yingzaofayuan,Yingzaofashi,Yuanye,Lubanjing as the important theoretical reference to explore the regionally characteristic further of the halls in Suzhou residents of Ming and Qing Dynasties.This article is composed of seven chapters.Chapter 1 provides “introduction”.It clarifies the research background,significance and purpose of the study,defines the scope of the study,and explains the important concepts,summarizes the current researches of domestic and international,and then,confirms research methods,steps and the framework of the paper.Chapter 2 is “the status of the hall in Ming and Qing residences in Suzhou”.It overviews Suzhou natural environment and humanistic environment,summarizes the origin and development of Xiangshan Gang,and discuss the influence on traditional architecture in Suzhou.In the last section of this chapter,it discusses the current situation of residents,culture,and the status quo of halls of Ming and Qing dynasty in Suzhou.Chapter 3 is “the plane constitution of the hall”.Firstly,it discusses the situation of the halls in resident.Then,from the plane shape,the room number and width,depth and constitute to analyze,summarizes the characteristics of the plane constitution of halls in residents of Ming and Qing dynasty in Suzhou.Chapter 4 is “the form of carpentry frame”.It analyzes the form and the constitution of carpentry frame.According to the different form of carpentry frame,divides the halls into two different types: conventional hall and special hall.Then,it analyzes the constitution of carpentry frame in this paper,to summarize the characteristics of the carpentry frame form and constitution of halls in residents of Ming and Qing dynasty in Suzhou.Chapter 5 is “the relationship of modulus of carpentry frame”.Firstly,it discusses the characteristics of the components from uses,shape,scale and detail.Then,bases on consulting historical data,field survey,and using BIM technology,selects several halls,to analyze the design system of wooden frame of the hall in residences of Ming and Qing Dynasties in Suzhou.Chapter 6 is “the key points of construction of carpentry frame”.It discusses and summarizes the key points from construct customs and processes,tools and materials,the tenon and mortise,and decorative art.Chapter 7 is the conclusion of the article.
