The Study Of Typical Urban Public Space Upon The Perspective Of Urban Culture

City is the outcome of the social productivity which has developed to a certain stage and the habitat and the inheritance of people. It represents the improvement of civilization. With the fast development of urbanization process, the level of urbanization in China increased rapidly. The urbanization process greatly improves city's construction of physical environment, and updates city image as well as transforms public spaces. However, be worth us more thoughtful is, city is not only a symbol of material level in an area or a country, but also a symbol of history and culture. Thus, in our country, many cities are just having material aspects but loss spirit aspects. Sum up the reason: it is not because we have no history and culture; it is because we often neglect the excavation city's cultural connotation.In the seventeenth congress Party General Secretary Hu Jintao pointed out that Culture becomes increasingly important in modern times both as a source of national unity and creativity and in the competition of comprehensive national strength. Therefore, in the process of city construction and internal reform, excavate cultural connotation and protect historical and cultural heritage is to become an important means of promoting urban culture. Urban public space is called the eyes of city, represents city images and styles. An urban public space filled with urban culture, reveals not only the civic characteristic and charm of the city, but also the local spiritual and cultural characteristics.On the basis of these backgrounds, this paper chooses Chongqing road, a topical public space in Changchun city as study area. First, a summary about the concepts and the development of urban public space at home and abroad is presented. Second, the concept, type, characteristic of city culture and its meaning for the shaping of urban public space is discussed. Third, based on the exploration of Changchun's culture, theoretical directions and advices of public space design of Chongqing road are put forward.
