Though the wide application of nonlinear and time-varying loads in power system has brought more and more convenience to our life and productive activities, also brought a series of inevitable problems, such as harmonics and reactive power, which is increasing rapidly and bringing hidden troubles to safe production. As a consequence to monitor and study power network is not only a premise to confine and eliminate harmonics but also an urgent demand to assure power supply system to run safely and economically and the safety of devices and personal safety.A power monitoring system is designed and implemented based on APF(active power filter, for short, APF). The monitoring system uses DSP-IPC microcomputer control system structure. IPC is industrial personal computer. The ip-iq algorithm and the control principle of active power filter are being considered as main research objects for solving harmonic problems in order to improve power supply quality. A hardware block diagram is given firstly in this paper. DSP-TMS320C5416 is used as the core chip of the digital control system. And this system also presents the realization method of some module, such as ROM, RAM, keyboard input, LCD display, data sampling, data processing and the serial communication. The system collects grid signals for testing, data processing and computing to get relevant high harmonics information and output control signals to driving circuit, so that the shunt active power filter (APF) can be controlled to compensate the harmonics, so as to improve power quality.Upper computer using VC++6.0 control software programming, has designed a multi-function, human-machine interface and flexible monitoring system. Several key methods and technologies are discussed, including real-time data collection and dynamic graph display, the serial communication between IPC and DSP, database management etc. t. The main researches are as follows:Firstly, through composing serial communication programs, it realizes the real-time data collection, such as voltage, current and power. Secondly, the programs makes it possible that the curves are dynamically shown out. Thirdly, The database SQL Server is used to save acquired data from the power system, which can implement the historical curve redrawed.
