The operation reliability of the power transformer as the one of the most important equipments in electrical power systems, influences operation security of electrical power systems directly .The purpose of the design is to detect the components of gases dissolved in transformer oil and diagnose whether the transformer exists the faults, which can improve the reliability of the transformer. At first, this paper introduced the current situation of the transformer fault diagnosis and its development. Then it talked about the relation between the gases dissolved in transformer oil and the internal insulation faults of operating transformer, as well as the common methods for diagnosing the faults of the transformer. The HBW hardware components are based on the series of MQ gas sensor, SST51 single-chip microcomputer, AD converter which can collect the concentration of the gases dissolved in transformer oil in real time. The software components use VC language to complete serial communication and visual interface, which can receive the data from the single-chip microcomputer; also build a database for the system which can store the data and draw the figure. Using other gases simulate the gases dissolved in transformer oil .Tests show that the on-line monitoring system can collect data in real time, transfer the data accurately and diagnose the running state and the faults of the transformer under laboratory conditions.Used the gas on-line monitoring, this paper solved a difficult which used to be need long period to judge the faults so effectively avoid the accidents enlargement and reduce the risk of malignant accidents.
