This paper introduced a kind of design of the substation supervisory control and its network system. A method that PC and intelligent terminals was communicated though RS-485 bus to realize the real time supervision and control of some parameter i.e. voltage, current, active power and power factor etc. were adopted here. The system has a friendly man-machine interface which based on Visual Basic 6.0, it though MSComm communication controller of Visual Basic 6.0 to realize series communication between PC and intelligent terminals. The software of PC can collect and dispose the data, and show the data on the interface as the shape of table or chart, and can produce forms etc. The system can save the important data in the database every 15 minutes. When the system emerges a breakdown, intelligent terminals can capture it and give an alarm, at the same time, the software can save the data in database. Furthermore, though ActiveX data object and ODBC interface, the data in database server that in operating system can exchange with the data in PC. The use of ADO supplies high-powered access for any database. To the opened database, we can execute SQL sentence, add the database, delete the database, update and choose the database etc. The client uses C/S model to get information and realize control. In addition, the intelligent terminal can capture failure information and give an alarm. The use of infrared keyboard enhances security of the system, the use of anti-jamming setup to ensure the reliable operation of the system. The experimental operation results show that the system, with all characteristics indexes being satisfied with the design requirements, can operate stably and reliably.
