Compared with concrete structural residential housing, steel structural residential housing is better in terms of building construction,industrialization and anti-seismic capability, so that steel structural residential housings have unique advantages of technique and economy and follow the trend of future development plan and policies of our steel industry and real estate market. Although there have been some practical projects of steel structural residential housings, more researches should be done to figure out the comprehensive techniqual and economic benefit of steel structural residential housing.This paper indicates some examples of structural system of steel structural residential housings from lower-rise to high-rise and summarise the characteristics of those houses. By using structural design sofware, such as ETABS and PKPM, comparision analysis and research on some examples of real projects is carried out:(1) Economic research of lower-rise steel structural house is carried out between Web-steel structrue and H-shaped steel frame structrue. The results show that the cost of panel system is in higher percentage of the whole cost of lower-rise steel structural residential housing and the H-shaped steel fame structrue is better than Web-steel structural system.(2) Comparision analysis and research of different steel structures of multi-rise residential buildings are carried out. The one between steel frame structure and frame-braced structure shows that steel frame-braced structure is better than steel frame structure in terms of anti-seismic capacity. The latter one between steel frame-braced structure and concrete frame-braced structure indicates that the two structures both meet the requirements of code and the cost of steel structure construction materials is higher than that of concrete structure, but the comprehensive benefit of steel structure is better than that of concrete structure.(3) Optimum design and economic analysis and research on high-rise steel house are carried out separetly. The former one shows that layout of column has great effect on the cost, and more work needs to be done for practical application of steel-concrete shearwall. The latter one finds out that, compared with high-rise concrete shearwall house the cost of high-rise steel residential house construction materials is higher, but due to the faster construction speed, high-rise steel residential is more comprehensive beneficial.
