As the coal actually used is poor and seriously deviate from the designed-coal of the utility boiler in current China, this is seriously affect the economy and safety of the units. In this paper, several problems in a 600MW supercritical utility boiler are studied, including the temperature of reheat steam is low, the combustion is not stable and the burnout is poor. Based on the theories of improving ignition and completing combustion, acording the characteristics of supercritical once-through boiler, the corresponding measures are proposed to adjust operation, and the retrofit scheme of refractory-belt is designed. The effects of the measures and scheme on combustion process in furnace are investigated by the means of the particular numerical simulations, such as the ignition, the burnout of the char and the re-heater temperature. This study shows that the measures and scheme proposed are helpful to solve the problems in the boiler.
