The electromagnetic transient simulation of electric power system is an important means to test the performance of relay protection device, as well as a main method to analyze the characteristic of ac and dc hybrid transmission system. Recently, the power system simulation focuses on electromechanical transient process simulation in China. Consequently, grid data are stored in the form of electromechanical transient simulation software so that there are hardly data recorded to simulate the behavior of power system electromagnetic transient process. On the base of analysis of the differences between BPA (an electromechanical transient process simulation software) and PSCAD (an electromagnetic transient process simulation software), an application method of model transformation from BPA to PSCAD is presented in this paper. This method is based on Node-Branch relation matrix of electric network theory and depth first searching (DFS) of graph theory. In addition, some cases are given as examples to prove the effectiveness and accuracy of this transformation method through comparison of grid power flow and dynamic performance illustrated by BPA and PSCAD software respectively.
