With the rapid development of the national economy, high-speed passenger, heavy freight rail traction in recent years is still continuing to pursue, and more and more attention on the objective of traffic safety has been paid. The diesel locomotive still plays a leading role in Railway traction, and to improve the reliability of the use of diesel locomotives is imperative. So it is necessary to develop a new type of stepless speed setting system of locomotive diesel engine, that is simple, excellent performance and higher reliability, to improve the regulation performance of diesel engine.This system, which adopts AVR single-chip micro-computer as Micro Control Unit (MCU), analyzes, calculates, tabular and control the step motor of the speed setting unit,according to the switch signals from master controller.Loading test on the diesel locomotive show that the diesel engine work smoothly, and slightly overshoot when the engine speed changes, that has a significant benefit on improving the reliability and service life of diesel engine. The system can be widely used in diesel locomotive.
