In recent year, with the rapid development of industry, people's living standard improves greatly. But with it the problems such as petroleum resource scarcity and environment pollution become more and more obvious, and people urgently seek for solutions. In auto industry, the technologies for energy saving and emission reduction have been introduced, but these technologies cannot fundamentally solve these problems. Meanwhile, alternative fuel vehicle and new energy vehicle also have sprung up. Even although they have kinds of advantages, their widely use still exist many technical limitations and questions. However, Air-powered vehicle come into people's horizon due to its advantages of high energy conversion efficiency and zero pollution. Its convenient power source, simple structure, low cost, short manufacturing research time and wide range of application, and most importantly its environment friend, make it has a broad market prospect.The main contains of this paper is to research and design an electronic control system for air-powered engine, in order to realize effectively flexible control and satisfy operation requirements under various conditions. ATmega16 which is embedded AVR series microprocessor of ATMEL Company is chosen as the core of the electric control system, and realize the control of the air-powered engine.Meanwhile, in order to overcome shortcomings of traditional automobile electrical design, such as too much wiring harness, low reliability and repair complex, this paper use CAN bus for data communication. The ECU of air-powered engine control system as CAN bus node, though the CAN controller and transceiver transmit the engine speed and other information to display system, and gather other vehicle information from other nodes to control system to optimize the control and running of air-powered engine.This paper analyzes the present situation and future prospects of air-powered vehicle, deeply discusses the overall development and design plan of the electronic control system and the corresponding control strategy, completes related circuit design of the engine control system based on ATmegal6, constructs CAN bus communication platform, compiles the control software for the air-powered engine electronic control units, and does the field test.The electronic control system of air-powered engine mainly includes:microprocessor module, digital signal acquisition module, analog signal module, electromagnetic valve driving module, CAN bus data communication module and LED display module. Through the development and design, this paper builds the electronic control system of air-powered engine, realizes the real-time acquisition of signals. By logic and calculation, ATmegal6 outputs the signal to control the high speed electromagnetic valve. And it can not only control the engine normally, but also when the crankshaft sensor fails realizes that the vehicle limps home. Though the CAN controller MCP2515 and transceiver TJA1040 the engine parameters are transferred to display on the LED display board. The air-powered engine can been controlled effectively and monitored by this system.
