ABSTRACT:Urban road traffic flow is highly mixed in China. As intersection signal control plan is based on vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle's right of way cannot be reasonable protected when their volume is great. This situation will lead to traffic chaos, security risks, frequent deceleration and acceleration of vehicles. It has seriously affected the efficiency of the intersection and the energy saving benefits. Combining with the National Science Foundation project "Research on levels of pedestrian service at the signalized control intersections" presided by my tutor, I have mainly done the research on signal control plan and signal timing optimization model both for pedestrians and vehicles at large flow intersections. The following questions are discussed in this paper:1. Multi-goal programming model both for pedestrians and vehicles at large flow intersectionsSignal timing multiple-objective planning model is established both for pedestrians and vehicles at large flow intersections. Through the analysis and empirical of the model, it is proved to increase trunk road capacity and reduce delay. And this model is used to analyze the regular of pedestrian and vehicle delay and passing capacity under different mixed traffic ratio.2. Bi-level programming model for signal control with the exclusive pedestrian phaseThe pedestrian signal phase is introduced. An intersection signal control Bi-level programming model is established with respective consideration of the benefits for travelers and managers. With the comparison of the VISSIM simulation results, actual data is used to do analysis and validation of the model. In the premise of pedestrian safety, the result shows that the models can increase intersection capacity, reduce vehicle and pedestrian delay, improve the efficiency of the intersection.3. Put forward standards of pedestrian signal phaseWith the application of the VISSIM simulation software, a large number of simulation experiments are carried on based on the Bi-level programming model. And standards of pedestrian signal phase have been put forward. This paper provides a theoretical basis for establishing reasonable signal control optimization models. Innovation points:a multi-goal programming model is established both for pedestrians and vehicles at large flow intersections. And a bi-level programming model for signal control is established based on the benefit of pedestrians.
