With the development of social economy and the ownership of cars in cities is rising, the problem of traffic jam is getting worse. Not only increase traffic congestion delays, deteriorate urban environment, traffic jams but also induced accidents, directly affecting people’s working efficiency and health. Relevant research shows that the unreasonable channelization in an urban road intersection and signal configuration does not adapt to the traffic flow are one of the major causes of traffic congestion. Therefore, it has the positive significance to alleviate the urban traffic congestion, improve the safety and smooth characteristic of urban road network and the traffic environment by using scientific and effective means to deploy time and space resources. On the existing research results, this paper summarized the domestic and foreign research status about time and space resource allocation at the intersection and mainly focused on research on channelization, signal timing and time and space resource allocation of intersection.Firstly, the traditional intersection channelization methods are studied in this paper, including design principles, processes, and some of the specific design methods. Then based on the project of alleviating congestion in key areas of in Wanzhou District, conducted a case study of the optimal design of the intersection, A conclusion is obtained that some means of channelization will improve the efficiency of Intersections.Secondly, on the analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of the traditional signal timing method, in view of the signal control intersection of different saturation, considering the primary goal of the signal timing pursues, established multi-objective programming model based on genetic algorithm, then matlab genetic algorithm toolbox is used to solve this problem. Finally, take an intersection in Chongqing as examples, the signal timing optimization design is carry out. Then, VISSIM is used to simulate and analysis this intersections, so as to verify the effectiveness of the model.After solved the problem of signal timing, comprehensive consideration of signal control intersection space resources and time resources, through the driveway function division and the combination of signal phase scheme, the space-time integrated optimization model of signal control intersection is established, while a matlab program is developed to solve this problem.Finally, takes Banan Avenue and Yunan bypass road intersection as research objects, the time and space resources comprehensive optimization model which is established in this paper is used to optimize design Then VISSIM simulation software is used to simulate analysis, and verify the validity of the model in this paper.
