With the increasing velocity of the railway vehicle, the probability of electric arc between pantograph and contact wire will be increased. And there is critical challenge for transmiting electrical energy to vehicle stably by pantogragh /contact wire.Meanwhile, there are various factors affecting the electric arc between pantogragh and contact wire. What's worse,we know little about the interrelated theory.As a result,we need to carry out the research about the electric arc between pantogragh and contact wire immediately,in order to develop the technology of high—speed railway vehicle in our country. So,this paper carries out the interrelated research for test-bed of electric arc between pantogragh and contact wire.Firstly, interrelated theory of the electric arc is analyzed. And the principal elements affecting electric arc were found out, according to the particularity of the pantogragh and contact wire. Those elements include the arc length, relatively speed between pantogragh and contact wire, electrode materials and geometry, position of pantogragh and contact wire, current and voltage level, particularity of circuit impedance and weather condition. The basic designing principle for the test-bed of electric arc between pantogragh and contac wire was also found out.Secondly, the test-bed scheme of electric arc mechanism of pantogragh and contact wire was analyzed,which is most close to the actual condition. The test-bed works like the centrifuge. The contact wire is hanged in the air by the vertical and horizontal insulator, which is made into regular octagon. The horizontal turning arm is just below the contact wire,which is drived by principal axis installed in the central position. The carbon board is installed in the end of horizontal turning arm.Then,carbon board can rotate with the horizontal turning arm at.high speed.Thirdly, controlling device of contact pressure and gap between pantogragh and contact wire of the test bed was researched, which use electromagnetic shaker to achieve the gap control. The model of force balance and characteristics of control of the electromagnetic shaker system was analyzed. The curve of gap between pantogragh and contact wire and current was gained.Fourth, the testing model of test-bed system was researched.Whether the relative distance of carbon skateboard and contact wire is consistent determines whether the generation of arc is controlled, when the carbon skateboard is rotating at a high-speed. The results show that it's the only way to measure the relative distance by using the Laser measurement.The vertical vibration of the horizontal turning arm can be measured at real-time by using the auxiliary reference platform.The rotation speed can be also measured at real-time by using the incremental encoder.At last, the electric collection of train was researched. And then we found that it's very difficult for train to use the conventional sliding contact for electric collection, when the train moves at high-speed.So, contactless power collection will be considered. A further reform for the test-bed should be suggested in order to undertake the research about power collection by electric arc which is the most promising of all contactless methods of power collection.
