Finite element analysis model of horizontal end-plate beam-column connections in Steel portal frames was established by program ANSYS, in which geometric nonlinearity, material nonlinearity, and contact between end-plates were considered. The efficienfy of the model was verified by comparing analysis results of three half scale specimens with test ones in terms of their failure mode, bearing capacity, and internal force of bolts.Secondly, based on above Finite element analysis model,13 full scale horizontal end-plate beam-column connections were analyzed, in which the influencing factors, such as thickness of end-plate, diameter of bolts, stiffner of end-plate, and etc., were considered, to found their effects on hysteretic behavior, stiffness, strength, energy dissipation of connections. The analysis results showed that all connections lost their bearing capacity quickly due to buckling after beam flange subjected plastic deformation, and the area of hysteretic loop was very small, so the energy dissipation was very poor. By studying the components of these connections, it revealed that the force in triangular stiffener of end-plate was the largest, then followed by diagonal stiffner, and finally the vertical stiffeners; At last, based on the analysis results, suggestions were put forward on design and on details to be refered by practice.
