End-plate beam-column connection in portal frame appears semi-rigid property, meanwhile, the web of beam and column is permitted to subject local buckling, so the mechanic property of the connection is very complicate, and need to do further study due to the lack of research achievement. This article carried out experimental study on horizontal end-plate beam-column connection for above reason.Firstly, three half scale specimens of horizontal end-plate beam-column connection were designed by considering the thickness of end-plate, the diameter, quantity, arrangement and strength grade of bolts, and determined the scheme of loading and measurement. Then, test was performed on the specimens under constant vertical force and cyclic horizontal loads. Based on the discussion of test results, including test phenomena, load-displacement curve, skeleton curve, rigidity curve, rotation angle between beam and column, force in bolts, and strain distribution in component element, it revealed that the specimen was failed due to local buckling of beam and column, the bolts and end-plate were still in elastic range; the initial rotation rigidity belonged to semi-rigid category; the energy dissipation ability of the connection was very poor, and mostly resisted earthquake by its bearing capacity; the neutral axis of bolts lied in the center of beam's compress flange. Finally, some suggestions on design and on details were put forward based on the test results, which can be referred in practice design.
