In this paper according to the conclusion of the application principle of reverse osmosis antiscalant at domestic and abroad, POCA (phosphoryl-carboxylic acid) scale inhibition performance has been discussed further via the static scale/deposit inhibition test and dynamic scale/deposit inhibition lab test. POCA is the basic component of Flocon 135 which has embodied scale, dispersion performances to calcium carbonate, barium sulfate, calcium sulfate, iron and iron oxides and so on. By way of scale inhibition/dispersion test in laboratory the performance comparison of Flocon 135 and phosphonate of extensive utilization in RO antiscalant market in China has been carried out. The static test results show:the scale inhibition capacity of POCA in CaSO4 scaling aspect is about 50 times better than ATMP capacity; the scale inhibition capacity of POCA in BaSO4 scaling aspect is about 90 times better than ATMP capacity; the dispersion capacity of POCA in FeyOx stabling aspect is about 2.5 times better than ATMP capacity. During dynamic scale/dispersion inhibition test the performance of Flocon 135 is better than ATMP's, especially in performance comparison of calcium carbonate scale inhibition control. Therefore, the test results display the dispersion capacity of antiscalnat is a important aspect in the brackish RO water treatment system.Through the study of molecule structure of POCA which is the major active substance of Flocon 135, the excellent scale inhibition and dispersion performance of Flocon 135 is related closely with the molecule structure of functional groups, such as phosphate group, polycarboxylate group and sulfonic group. The statement of the influential factors of scale inhibition and dispersion performance has been mentioned, therefore, this will be a valuable guidance for the choice of the reverse osmosis membrane antiscalant types. The application database of Flocon 135 in brackish water RO system shows Flocon 135 can control the common scale types of brackish water as well as the outstanding dispersion capacity of iron, aluminum salts. This study will provide some scientific guideline for the antiscalant which has POCA component mainly applied in the brackish RO water treatment system for fouling control.
