The bidirectional through-flow pump with intallation-pit is a new kind structure form of low-lift-head pumping system. It is composed of intake and outlet sump, inlet and outlet conduit, through-flow pump with intallation-pit. The pumping system which combines water diversion with drainage has high efficiency, straight flow, small hydraulic loss, simple structure, low excavation depth and plane size as well as saving project investment. Thus it is convenient for managing and maintaining. And it is also easy to realize the bidirectional pumping. It is especially suitable for middle and small pumping system in the south water transfer project.At present, it is not common to carry out numerical simulation of the pump, especially for the bidirectional symmetric impeller through-flow pump with intallation-pit. Each component of the bidirectional through-flow pump with intallation-pit is an organic whole which affects each other, that the impeller has the same performance in both conditions. Adopting the bidirectional impeller can realize the bidirectional pumping function. We make numerical simulation for the device model to study the bidirectional function of bidirectional through-flow pump with intallation-pit system and explore how the blade angle and bearing support arrangement form affect the hydraulic performance of bidirectional operation of the pump. Therefore, it is necessary for us to analyze and study the flow field in the whole unit in order to reduce the hydraulic losses, increase the hydraulic performance and improve the unit efficiency.CFD technology, namely computational fluid dynamics technology, gets rapid development with the enhancement of computer performance and the improvement of numerical method. Now as a kind of the CFD software which has the most comprehensive function and extensive practicability, the FLUENT software is spreading gradually in the hydraulic engineering. In this paper, we conduct numerical simulation for the inner flow field of the bidirectional symmetric impeller through-flow pump with intallation-pit by using FLUENT software. This article analyzes the flow pattern inside the pump and the influence of flow passage components in the channel. Thus an optimization scheme for flow passage components such as inlet and outlet conduit, blade angle and bearing support arrangement form is presented. The scheme may predict pump performance so as to reduce the hydraulic loss of pump, which has important theoretical value and practical significance for improving efficiency of pumping system.In the paper numerical calculation based on a bidirectional symmetric impeller through-flow pump with intallation-pit was made. It also establishes three-dimensional model and unstructured mesh generation calculation region by Gambit. We solved the three-dimensional N-S equation by adopting standard k-εturbulence model. By using finite volume method, discrete equation is built. And we carry out three-dimensional turbulence numerical calculation for inlet and outlet conduit of bidirectional symmetric impeller through-flow pump with intallation-pit by one order upwind scheme. Also through the scheme we conduct the numerical simulation study of flow and performance prediction inside the device. It is expected that complex flow pattern may be simulated well. The improved method of pump device structure, optimize the hydraulic performance of pump, and enhance the pump assembly efficiency are proposed.
