Thermostatic valves, one kind of self-adjustor of liquid temperature and flow, can automatic control temperature of system. They controls opening/closing or the size of opening valve by expansibility of thermosensitive material with temperature varying, and regulates the flow of cool and hot fluid entering the valve to control exporting temperature of fluid. By reason of thermostatic valves, with simple structure, low price, reliable operation, high energy conservation, unwanted dynamic force and high automatization, are widely used in metallurgy chemical industry and civil-used device.In this paper, the three-ways thermostatic valve, with has typical structure and was widely used, was researched and optimized from tow ways, which were internal flow field valve and key components. And to provide reference for the improvement and design of similar products.Along with the development of computer technology and technology of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software, and based on CFD theory numerical simulation has become a mainly method to research the internal flow and the performance of chemical process equipments. First, in this paper, according to characteristics and parameters of actual internal structure of thermostatic valve, a three-dimensional physical model was performed of the internal flow field of thermostatic valve by three-dimensional design software. Next, applying FLUENT software of CFD, the status of flow field were derived at different work condition (mainly focus on the work condition of intake cool fluid flow equal hot fluid). Then, according to the derived result, the flow field law of internal thermostatic valve and the existent problems of thermostatic valve were discussed (these problems have a close bearing on the temperature measurement accuracy and response time of temperature kit, and consequently affect the performance of thermostatic valve). And in this paper, have a deep exploration into the causes of these problems. After that, to optimize the internal flow field of thermostatic valve aimed at these problems by creatively improving cover shape and internal structure of adjusting-barrel. The last, the optimized model was simulated numerically by FLUENT software, thus the rationality of optimization design.Finally, associating related new technologies and products, for the key temperature-control components of thermostatic valve (temperature control spring nest), the optimization design method was introduced, with formula derivation and design example. Moreover, for the key temperature-sensing components (temperature kit), the proposals were put forward from two aspects.
