The cam-tappet is a main mechanism to achieve precise movements in internal combustion engine. Its abrasion would make the condition of contact worse, The changes of their contact surface would affect the motion accuracy of tappet, and even have damaging effects on components. So the friction and wear of cam-tappet is the main reason for failure of the cam drive system. In this paper, based on the theory of wear, the mechanism of cam-tappet wear is discussed. Because a single wear mechanism is difficult to describe the cam-tappet wear state, the wear calculation model based on friction work proposed by Zhang Yi-Cheng is selected; the numerical solution method of the cam friction developed by rpH6,B.B. is used. Sliding coefficient, normal pressure, wear vector and wear depth of cam-tappet in view of the influence of surface actual topography are decided, meanwhile the more comprehensive and more reasonable cam-tappet wear dynamic simulation model in view of the influence of surface topography is established. In this research, the cam-tappet simulation software based on MATLAB software is developed. This system consists of three parts i.e., data input, the result analysis of wear and life prediction. The scientific efficient computer simulation technology is used to replace the traditional taking time and arduous experimental method, and the software can forecast cam-tappet mechanism wear state and it's life. According to the simulation result, this paper analyzes the wear characteristics and laws, and proposes improvement measures to reduce and control the wear of cam-tappet. This research has a good application prospect and great practical value.
