To achieve the increasingly stringent emissions regulations, satisfy the demand of automotive clients for lower fuel consumption and excellent noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) behavior, the whole automotive industry and academic institutions realize the pressing need for clean and efficient internal combustion (IC) engine and try their best to do it. The Electro-hydraulic valve actuation(EHVA)in this dissertation is a kind of way for the future engine. Compared with conventional IC engines'fixed valve timing, EHVA get a flexible valve lift and timing which can achieve lower fuel consumption, lower emissions and higher efficiency. In recent years more and more attentions have been paid to this new technology, abroad vast researches have been made in the area of EHVA on structural design and controlling strategies and still being continued due to some problems to deal with, such as speed of response, solenoid technology , structure and so on. It is far away from production. It is well known that the engine brake is a significant technology for the heavy-duty trucks, and it is widely used in the truck market. As a preparation for the comprehensive application of EHVA and the camless engine, the EHVA technology will be applied in engine exhaust brake system which based on the CA6DN1 series engines. In this dissertation, the technology of EHVA was investigated and analyzed basing on large numbers of references and experience. After the working principle of engine brake was known, combining with the CA6DN1 series engines parameters, the design of engine brake system was made. The structure parameters of the system were determined through calculation, the structural design was achieved by Pro/E, and the details of the key component were done by CAE, the dynamic model of engine exhaust brake system was built by using the simulation software. Based on the simulation analysis, the relationship between parameters and system performance was studied. Then the rationality and feasibility of system programs and structural parameters were verified. Finally the validation tests were finished. The studies and results obtained in this dissertation will make a foundation for further research and development.
