A Preliminary Study On Culture Connotation Of The Hakka Traditional Dwelling Houses In Gannan Area

Hakka is a distinctive Chinese Patriarchal clan. Hakka culture was formed during their migration southward from central China plain area and gradually blending with a boriginal culture. Hakka architecture is the carrier, the typical expression of Hakka culture and also unique cultural phenomenon of traditional Chinese architecture.This paper analyzes settlemental model, prototype of architecture,character of prototype, identity of space through the Hakka traditional dwelling houses in Gannan area. Then concludes that relations between settlemental model and social organization of the traditional dwelling houses in Gannan area and indicates that the surrounding house-form is typical not only as aunique dwelling form, but also embodies their social formation of "living in compactcommunities" of Hakka architecture.
