Study On The Feasibility Of Elliptical Rolling Rods Base Isolation System

Base isolation can decrease the damages made by earthquakes very efficiently, and protect people's lives and properties'safe while keeping the structure's usability. Base isolation devices can separate the base and the upper part of the structure; so that it can reduce the earthquake response and have changed the traditional seismic model, which reduces the earthquake response just depending on improving stiffness and strength of the structure. The rubber bearings base isolation system suggested by The National Seismic Code can not put into practice widely for its high cost and complicated techniques. In this paper we will discuss a type base isolation system:elliptical rolling rods base isolation system.The main contents of this dissertation are listed as follows:(1)After analyzing traditional base isolation systems, we get the thesis of base isolation, and propose some base isolation systems to make contracts, in order to make sure the existed base isolation systems' problems. We put forward a series of base isolation systems with self-recovery function, and get their advantages and disadvantages.(2) Then we analyze the necessities and superiorities of elliptical rolling rods base isolation system, which will be discussed in this thesis, to make sure the research aspects and key points, we suggest something that needs to be noted on the project designing and the technique implementing.(3) We make simulation analysis of the upper part of the structure with elliptical rolling rods base isolation system and get the computing model and the differential equation of both the one-way and two-way. After computing the structure's response with base isolation system under several different simple harmonic wave while changing the elliptical rolling rods'sizes for three times, we find the effects of this base isolation system are very obvious.(4)We put forward the methods of utilizing the MATLAB programming and solving the kinetic equation of elliptical rolling rods base isolation system. We make programs and make calculation and verification of the practical project. From the analog computation result, we find the elliptical rolling rods base isolation system has great applicability.
