Analysis And Treatment For Distress On Half Filling And Half Digging High Embankment In Mei-he Expressway

Half filling and half digging high embankment is a black spot in expressway. This paper combines the treatment for distress on K17+500～K17+800 high embankment in Guang Dong Mei-He expressway, detailing the half filling and half digging high embankment, from the monitoring, design calculation, design and construction of the whole process. From this engineering example, for half filling and half digging high embankment to provide examples of disease prevention, providing references with the type of disease treatment in future.Mei-He Expressway was opened to traffic in October 28, 2005. After the"LiBiAn"typhoon in August 3rd 2006, the embankment slope of the right roadway on K17 +500 ~ K17 +800 was seriously distorted by the heavy rainfall caused by the typhoon. The reinforcement of the slope (Ⅰphase of the project) was completed in January 28, 2007,but soon after that some roadbed cracked and kept expanding, seriously influencing the safety of highway operation. The slope treatment project (Phase II) has been accomplished based on the Phase I project by the end of 2008 and the effect was very good.Combined with the topography and geological conditions in this half filling and half digging high embankment, this paper has a systemic introduction on the whole process of distress treatment, ranging from monitor data , design calculation , project design to construction process. The twice damage of the cut and fill high embankment within K17+500～K17+800 of Meihe Expresswway was analyzed based on the project geology and related monitoring data. Besides, the strengthening project during the first time and the treatment during the second time were introduced together with the construction technology. It also provides analysis of the cause of this distress and suggestions on how to fundamentally prevent the similar distress existing in half filling and half digging high embankment.
