High-grade road construction is developing in unexampled speed along with the rapid andhealthy development of the national economy in recent years. The geological conditions of thearea that high-grade road passed through are infinitely different, so massive half-filled andhalf-dug treatments are needed in order to avoid uneven settlement of the roadbed. Unevensettlement of the roadbed is one of the common diseases of road, it may leads to relativelylargetransverse and lengthways cracking, even step and collapse, so affects the performance and theservice level of the road seriously, also restricts construction quality and long-term performanceofthehigh-graderoadprojectseriously.Though there have been many methods to deal with uneven settlement of the roadbed, buttheeffectisunsatisfactory.Geocellisanewkindofgeosynthtics;ithasspatialconfigurationandpredominant performance. Geocell has been widely used in soft ground reinforcement of manykinds of civil engineering in recent years, and its reinforcement achieved good results. Severalmain works and results of this paper are listed as follows, which were studied by theoreticalanalysisandfiniteelementsimulation.Firstly, the intensity characteristics and mechanism of embankment reinforced withgeosynthtics were analyzed; it can be concluded that the binding force of roadbed can bestrengthened by geocell, also the carrying capacity of roadbed can be improved and unevensettlementofroadbedcanbeadjustedbygeocell.Secondly, surface to surface contact analysis method, together with the control and use ofthe birth and death unit in ansys were introduced in detail, the range of model is determined byANSYSfinitesoftware.Thirdly, half-filled and half-dug road were analyzed by the ansys finite software. Thefactors which effect on road such as the thickness, modulus of geocell and the modulus ofgeocell mat were analyzed. Some useful results were obtained which can be referenced byprojectpractice.
