In the fierce market competition, the upgrading of automotive products is more rapid, the design of automobile body is more personalized, that leading to a huge demand for car welding line. Manufacturing speed and quality of automobile welding jig affect the production scale, developing cycle and manufacturing precision of automobile directly. Traditional automobile welding jig development cycle is so long that can't keep up with the market demand for welding line. In order to improve the efficiency of welding jig design, an automobile welding jig parametric design system is developed in this paper, the following work are completed by the research:Firstly, the background and significance of this paper are discussed; the overview of the automobile body welding lines and welding jig is introduced; the classification, composition and characteristics of automobile welding jig are presented, and present design method and research of automobile body welding jig are reviewed.Secondly, based on the functions analysis, the general scheme of welding jig parametric design is designed, the structure of the system is constructed, the data exchange within the system is analyzed, and the operating process of the system is described.Thirdly, by analyzing, concluding and summarizing a large number of design data of welding jig, the classification and coding of the welding jig components and cases are realized; the automobile welding jig components and case databases are built; and the management of these databases, such as the function include search, add/remove and realized. The reasoning mechanism of the system is studied deeply, the design of automobile welding jig based on case/part-based reasoning are realized according to vector matching algorithm.Finally, based on CATIA software platform, each modules of the system are developed preliminarily by VB programming language, and the automobile welding jig design of one station are realized finally. At last, taking one weld station of rear side member as an example, the automobile welding jig design process is presented. Practice shows: the welding jig designed by this system has shorter development cycle than the traditional method, in turn, the developing time of new style automobile can be shortened.
