Electric power steering (EPS) is the future of automobile power steering technology. EPS has the advantage of simple structure, low-energy-consumption, low pollution, and easy installation and assemble. The system can improve the driver's steering feel and also decrease the amount of driver labor needed. It is essential to improve the steering function and drive safety. Researching and developing EPS technology meet the need of safety, energy-low-consumed and environment-friendly for automobile development. EPS is the direction of power steering technique because of its advantages. In particular, it is essential to study the technique for China who has the developing automobile industry.Based on the mathematical model of electric power steering system and the eight degrees of freedom vehicle model, the simulation of EPS is established in Matlab7.1/Simulink. Using fuzzy PID control strategy to assist motor control based on input torque. The simulation results show that the designed EPS can meet the perfect effect between steering portability and road feeling; Furthermore, it has good performance of anti-jamming capabilities. And it is of advantage in improving the automotive handling stability and safety.Virtual Instrument system based on computer has a virtual panel. And the core of its function is software. It is the combined production of the computer technique and instrumentation technique. Virtual Instrument breaks through the limitation of the capability of traditional instrument by data acquisition, signal processing, data storage and graphic display. It is a test and development flat of the testing and automation system with high performance and low cost.The writer establish the hardware-in-loop test platform using the virtual instrument software—LabVIEW8.6. And then summarize the structure and principle of the test platform. The writer also designs the controlling program for it. And test its performance of assisting control by the vehicle with EPS assembled. Then, evaluate the result of the hardware-in-loop test and debug the designed program to improve it. This test may provide reference for the development of the EPS products. And, the test is significant to shorten the development period of new products, to cut down cost and to increase the quality of new EPS products.
