As a modern transport corridor the highway is playing a more and more important role in present social and economic life. Highway is the corridor of traffic flow between cities. The construction of highway makes the links between cites more closer, expands the scope of the city's radiation, enhances the distribution intensity and realizes the function that moves effectively and operates the passenger traffic, logistics, information flow between cities. Nevertheless, it can be the motivity of city development, also it can be the threshold on the contrary. For instance, it could be the obstacle to a city when the urban land use needs to span highway. Consequently, it is urgent to construct highway better and quicker.According to the highway construction theories and practice in developed areas home and abroad, the paper aims to analyze the basic characteristics in the developed urbanized areas and the corresponding basic characteristics, diagnose the main crux of developed urbanized areas, study the reasonable size of highway network in the developed urbanized areas from the overall regional level and the concrete linear layout, cross-sectional design, longitudinal design, and import and export design to optimize the highway planning and construction mode in the developed urbanized areas from the individual level.
