The traffic history in economically developed cities tells us that only utilizing rail transit (subway and light rail) system for massive passengers is the effective approach to radically improve urban public traffic condition. AFC (Automatic fare collection) machine is an essential terminal device for rail transit. Although three-roller fare collection machines are commonly used, AFC machine becomes more convenient and considerate. Since the problem occurs on recognition of human body, the recognition capability is the research focus in many manufacturing enterprises, which helps the citizen to take rail transit more efficiently.The gate(flop door) designed in this paper is developed after absorbing the scheme of foreign product and combining with living custom of Chinese people, and it can be passed from both sides. 16 pairs of sensors are adopted in this fare collection machine and divided into 4 recognition areas. From left to right, they are detection area, monitoring area, safety area and departure area. 2 pairs of sensors are distributed in detection area and they are used for detecting if there is any passenger who has entered this area. 4 pairs of sensors are disturbed in monitoring area and they are used for detecting if it is legal for the passenger to pass the channel. 4 pairs of sensors are disturbed in safety area and they are used for protecting the passenger who is passing the gate. 6 pairs of sensors are disturbed in departure area and they are used for detecting if the passenger has passed the channel. The judgment rules are complied on the basis of practical tests. To recognize if it is legal for passenger to pass the channel, it is mainly relied on the information gathered by the sensors in monitoring area, and then combines the information with judgment rules.Comparing with the foreign gate(flop door), this design scheme reduces the usage of sensors and manufacturing costs, and also reduces design difficulty of judgment rules accordingly. Through study and practical trials, this design could meet the requirements of rail transit department. AFC machine will be adopted in the station of line 10 and satisfied results are expected to be achieved.
