In aviation, aerospace, marine, transportation and other important industrial field, fatigue damage is a main failure mode of mechanical components. With the rapid development of engineering and materials science, people pay more attention to fatigue study than before, it has become an important subject.First, this paper describes domestic and foreign status on fatigue study, introduces current some fatigue analysis methods often used, for example, methods based on life-cycle analysis, the stress - strain and power spectral density, and especially introduces five expression often used and symmetry cyclic loading of S-N curves and mean stress correction methods of non-symmetrical cycle loading. It points out that the classification of fatigue failure and the mechanism of fatigue cracks, expansion and fracture. It also analyzes some fatigue lfactors, for example, stress concentration, quality of parts'surface, size, and environmental affecting.Secondly, the Pro/E software is used to make mode of U-shaped bellows, and the ABAQUS software is used to make Static analysis. By calculation and analysis, find out the relationship between the change of stress and strain and design parameters of U-shaped bellows.Then, it uses formulas for fatigue life and MSC.FATIGUE software on fatigue analysis to calculate the fatigue life of U-shaped bellows. According to the results of calculation, it gives the fatigue design optimization and structural parameters'optimization of bellows.Finally, two sets of bellows are produced to make fatigue tests according to design requirements. Through tests, it proves the accuracy of analytical results .The practice proves that the method using CAE software to make model and static analysis and fatigue life analysis is an efficient, feasible and reliable fatigue design method, which can effectively reduce the design cost and shorten the development cycle and improve products'competitiveness in markets, and provides a new path for the fatigue design of mechanical products.
