As human society entered into 21st century, both the residential area and construction level have no comparison between the past and present. The modern urban residential area, right now, which has the fastest construction speed, the grandest scale, the widest range, the most connective relationship with human lives also have a profound impact on all aspects of the city.With such a large-scale settlement construction, our traditional way of life and living culture is gradually disappearing, the traditional network of neighborhood relations are facing complete collapse, the texture of the city also suffered devastating damage. If you try to explore what causes destruction of the traditional neighborhood, then we had to transfer to the view prevalent in the past two decades living quarters of the residential estate pattern. The wall everywhere, security monitoring has become a safe and effective measures to ensure the district has also become the object of concern to the residents purchase. Community and Urban isolate, fragmented, making it the disintegration of neighborhoods, undermine community integration of the culprit. In this context, research on the settlement pattern has become an urgent and important issue. Therefore, this article will compare the current prevalence of foreign-based settlement model--urban residential block as its object of study, hoping to get some inspiration.The main line of this study was to explore the problems and solutions on urban residential block pattern in the planning and development in China. The study has sunned up some theories concerning the subject through research on relevant literature. Besides, the study also summarized some practical experience for the construction of residential area through research on some typical residential block. Based on the above-mentioned study, the countermeasures has been put forward.The first chapter defines the text of the relevant concepts, proposed the methods, significance and framework; second chapter summarizes the related theory of the residential block, and research on domestic and foreign has combed; the third chapter summarize the classification and meanings of residential block, and conduct the comparative study with residential estate; Chapter Four from the start of historical analysis of urban residential block, a few blocks through the instance of the status of research-based settlements, summed up the planning problems of urban residential blocks in the current; the fifth chapter proposed the countermeasures from design ideas , urban planning, community management systems, Chapter VI of the author involved in a project practice, to clarify how the controlled detailed planning and urban design to guide the planning of the urban residential block.
