Cylinder is the special equipment closely related to industrial production and people's life, which includes two transportation modes at present, horizontal and vertical. Compared with horizontal mode, vertical mode is more reliable, more efficient and safer. Currently, vertical mode plays a significant role in solving the transportation safety issues of dangerous gas goods. Therefore, the vertical mode is pretty urgent to popularize in China, whose safety research is a necessary strategic task.Based on the above phenomenon, to play full advantages of vertical mode, to provide scientific basis for its security from technical requirements and management system and to speed up its promotion and further maturation, the paper firstly concludes and compares the current domestic and international application status and development trend of cylinder vertical transportation as to grasp its major issues. Meanwhile, it comprehensively analyzes the differences of transportation efficiency and transportation safety level between the two modes, proving that the vertical mode is much more advanced. In this paper, the typical fixed approach of vertical group cylinder transportation is presented and a transport model is established to analyze its reliability and security from the perspective of limited transportation state and its better applicability in our country is verified with road testing. Combining the specific conditions in our country and international trade trends and extensively absorbing the suggestions of domestic related enterprises, the more specific safety technical requirements adapted to national conditions are summarized. The current security management status of vertical road transportation is deeply studied and the practical common management problems are discussed in order to propose feasible safety management strategies at this stage. The research achievements of this paper have a strong practical value and can also produce some social economic benefits.
