As the source of the product life cycle, customer requirements are direct-driven power of product development. Enterprises should understand and grasp the customer requirements and expectations, detect the unmet customer requirements timely, thereby to meet customer requirements. Effective requirements management can help a designer to correctly grasp the customer requirements, improve product design quality, increase customer requirements satisfaction and reduce the cost. This paper researches requirements management based on the product life cycle management.This paper establishes the function model of PLM requirements management and presents its 7 functions through analyzing the data and activity related to customer requirements in the whole product life cycle. After that, this paper conducts a detailed study on requirements classification and treatment, requirements transformation, requirements tracking, requirements validation and similar requirements search.Firstly, according to the characteristics of the mechanical products, customer requirements are classified and the customer requirements category templates are established in this paper. Then the paper analyses the data characteristics of customer requirements description languages, proposes a standard requirements expression method based on customer requirements category templates, and gives the requirements information storage model and the requirements information database table, that makes the requirements expression orderly and clear.Secondly, the QFD is applied to PLM requirements management to gradually transform requirements. The requirements transformation database table is established in this paper. UML class diagram is used to express the requirements tracing data relationship, BOM is adopted to organize surface layer data, extensional directed graph is introduced to establish the workflow model of requirements validation, and the data organization model is also established. Through these functions, product design results can be traced back to requirements, and the unmet customer requirements can be timely discovered.Finally, the technology of CBR is applied to PLM requirements management, Designers can look for references in design cases through searching similar requirements. This paper gives the CBR workflow and establishes the case base. Then the case search steps and various of search algorithms are given. Fuzzy analytic hierarchy process is used to determine the weights of customer requirements. Reuse of product design knowledge, starting from the requirements, could improve design accuracy, reduce design time and enhance competition ability of enterprises.
