Rutting which is the specific form of asphalt pavement deformation is one of the most serious damage types of asphalt pavement in China. The emergence of the rutting not only seriously affects the functional quality of the pavement, but also threatens the traffic safety. Due to the limit of the research method, there is more attention paid on the asphalt mixture composition, but less on the pavement structure when researching on the influencing factors of asphalt pavement rutting. And then, in order to direct the asphalt pavement design and construction, it is very important to analyze the influencing factors of asphalt pavement rutting from the structural aspect. Therefore, based on the main structural type of asphalt pavement in China, composite structure rutting test and finite element method is applied in this paper to study the influencing factors of asphalt pavement rutting.According to the actual investigation and literature research, the origin and influencing factors of asphalt pavement permanent deformation are analyzed from the structural aspect in this paper. The ABAQUS finite element program is applied to analyze the feasibility of composite structure rutting test, and then the mold of composite structure rutting test suited to the rutting test equipment is developed. The experiment researches of composite structure rutting test are carried out aimed at the influencing factors of asphalt pavement rutting.Considering the high-temperature performance of asphalt mixture, the time hardening model is recommended to determine the material parameters of asphalt mixture and the solution for the mutual correlation problem is provided in this paper. The two-dimension plane model and the simplification of dynamic loading are applied to create the finite element model for asphalt pavement permanent deformation analysis. According to the finite element method, the influence of the types of basement, the ratio of surface layer modulus and the thickness of asphalt layer on the asphalt pavement permanent deformation is studied, the reasonable surface layer modulus ratio and the asphalt layer thickness is recommended in this paper.Based on the analysis of asphalt pavement rutting mechanism and influencing factors, the feasible of applying the finite element method to predict the asphalt pavement rutting is verified, using the secondary development technology put forward the design process, components and input parameters of asphalt pavement rutting prediction system based on the finite element analysis program. According to the asphalt pavement rutting prediction results, the asphalt pavement thickness design method and maintenance decision considering the rutting development is also put forward in this paper.
