In this paper, based on the properties of EPS board(Expand Polystyrene), it takes the high fills culvert as an experimental segment,which lies in k44+600 of the highway from GuangYuan to BaZhong in SiChuan province. The EPS blocks as reducing-load material are laid down to the top and side of the culverts at the same time as reducing-load measures to research rigid culverts applied in civil engineering, culvert structure optimization, at the same time study load reduction measures culvert field application,and different EPS density and thickness are laid down to the culverts conducted a field test. Main research contents on culverts as follows:EPS board of stress-strain law; Magnitude and distribution of vertical earth pressure on the top of culverts and their changes with soil-filled height; Magnitude and distribution of horizontal earth pressure on the side walls of culverts and their changes with soil-filled height; Magnitude of settlement difference between culvert body and filled side and their changes with soil-filled height; Puting forward the design and construction requirements in order to promote the use of methods; This results can be provided for culverts engineering design, also can be used as revision basis of the concerning design specifications,rule and manual of relevant department.
