The Development Of Japanese Housing Design

With the deepping of urbanization, China's urban construction is gradually developing into an intensive direction. As a major living form in the modern city, housing plays an important role in solving large population's habitation problems that generated by the urbanization, and going into in-depth study of it has social significance. Aimming at the current insufficient research situation of basical and comprehensive study, Selecting Japan that has fruitful results in residential areas and a highly similarity cultural background, population structure and other aspects like China as a reference object, the article systematically studys the development of Japanese housing design from a historical perspective. According to the differences of the background and developing characteristics, the whole history can be approximately divided into four stages such as: modern origin, post-war development, reflection and evolution, and diversification. The article not only does a longitudinal research on the pioneer theory and practice in all stages, but also makes a horizontal comparison combined with the development of housing design in our country. Through systematic research, it tries to inspire more topics in housing design, and seeks some guidance and reference for the housing design suited to the national conditions in China.The article which contains six chapters is divided into three parts:The first part is the introduction, and also the first chapter. Above of all, it points out the background topics and the situation of current research. Then, it clearly defines the concept of housing and expounds the research area, methodology, significance and innovation. Finally, it summarizes the framework of the article.The second part including the chapter two to five is the treatise, which detailedly analyzes the development process of Japanese housing design. Chapter Two discusses the background of its origin, as well as the early development process and characteristics of it. Chapter Three discusses the development of standard design under a serious shortage of residential units in early pre-war Japan, and environmental consciousness come out from a few private projects in the later period. Chapter Four closely follows the previous one, discusses the reflection on standard design and the new design exploration after oil crisis, the development of Japanese housing design evolved from "quantity" to "quality". Chapter Five discusses the diversification after the burst of bubble economy.The third part containing Chapter six is the conclusion, In summing up the whole development process of housing in Japan and considering the actual situation and housing development process in our country, the article makes a horizontal comparison of the Sino-Japanese housing design development, by which to find out the gap and to analyze the reasons. Finally, it points out the guidance from Japanese housing development to provide reference for future development in China.
