Sustainable Development became the topic of the world in the 21st century. Nowadays the architecture should be built with less-energy consumption. In China, the residential building faces the opportunity and the challenge of fast development and renewal. Residential buildings with less energy consumption are needed inevitably. The paper is about residential design. We studied on the residential buildings in Tianjin, from the point of energy conservation. We try to find measures which can make architectures consume less energy. We hope that the methods developed in the research could be used in the first stage of architecture design, provide references to the projects of energy conservation in Tianjin, and make contribution to sustainable housing design. From the point of Energy Conservation, this paper sums up the common methods of residential design in two aspects: plan design and defending structure design. Then, we studied the residential buildings that had been built in the past 5 years in Tianjin, classified them with their different characteristics, found out merits and shortcomings of their design from the point of energy conservation. With the software of Ecotect, we analyzed some parts of residential design, put forward measures and calculate results of energy conservation. We chose a residential building that had been built as a case study, compared the energy consumption between the house with an optimized design and the original one, found out merits and shortcomings of its design, put forward measures of how to make a better project with less energy consumption. At last, we sum up what we had studied and put forward a process of housing design in the way of energy conservation.
