With the increase of traffic flow and the tendency of maximization and complication for bridge structure, the traditional manual detection method is difficult to ensure the safety, applicability and durability of long-span bridges during operation. Hence the structural health monitoring system has been the developmental trend for the bridge structure security system. At present an increasing number of structural health monitoring systems are installed in the long-span bridges at home. However, most of them are installed in the cable-stayed bridge and suspension bridge and the system that installed in arch bridge is rarely seen. Moreover, the actual effects of built health monitoring system are not good enough, being with the poor real-time, automation and project guiding. In view of above-mentioned issues, a bridge structure health monitoring system with real time, automation, continuity, intelligence, reliability and practicality is researched and developed aim at the long-span arch structure for Xinguang Bridge.The main work of this dissertation is as follows.(1) The current development of health monitoring and safety evaluation systems are reviewed and a new approach of it which consists of sensors subsystem, data acquisition and transmission subsystem, data processing and analysis subsystem, components rating subsystem, safety evaluation subsystem and data management subsystem is proposed. Furthermore, In view of the preliminary stage of the system development, only the previous three subsystems are studied and the last three subsystems are not included temporarily in this dissertation.(2) Based on the objective and capabilities request of health monitoring system, the monitoring items which include stress, environment loads, vibration and geometric distortion are determined, the general achitechture of systems which are composed of sensors subsystem, data acquisition and transmission subsystem, data processing and analysis subsystem and data management subsystem are designed according to the design discipline as well.(3) On the basis of system monitoring items, the sensors subsystem is designed in detail, including choice and arrangements of the stress sensors, environment sensors, vibration sensors and GPS. (4) The finite concentrate and hierarchical distributed structure of data acquisition and transmission subsystem is proposed and the system is designed in detail, including the operation processed and instruments of data site acquisition layer, data site transmission layer and data long-distance transmission layer.(5) The data processing and analysis approaches of stress, temperature, wind, cable forces, structure vibration and GPS data are systematically proposed. Furthermore, the operation and safety status of Xinguang Bridge can be reflected from the statistical report exported after the processing and analysis process.
