Entering the 21st century, the global automotive industry has entered a new era. In the opening and increasingly fierce competitive market environment, Chinese automobile manufactures are faced with both opportunities and challenges. In this paper, Dongfeng Automobile Co., Ltd was investigated through production process optimization and production line balancing.First, aiming at the present situation in the car welding workshop in Car Branch of Dongfeng Automobile Co., Ltd such as low productivity, improper layout and process simple design, low production flexibility, poor car quality, low equipment utilization rate and poor working environment etc, the paper firstly analyzed the productivity, staffing, process planning, process cycle in the car welding workshop and proposed the key problems to solve.Second, based on the analysis aboved the requirement of the new car and the situation of the welding workshop, the type of production line, the process planning and the process design of all parts of the productions were finished, and the process of new car welding production line was optimized, realizing the mixed-line production of all parts of full range of cars.Last, based on the brief overview on the theory and methods on production line balancing, aiming at the low productivity and line balance rate, the paper analyzed the factors affecting the car welding line balancing, then chose Duo Lika bottom line as research object. Through work measurement, line cycle calculation and the analysis of the bottleneck workstation, the paper optimized the light compartment welding line balancing by movement analysis and process sequencing. The quantitative contrast results verified the validity of the improvements.
